Opinions on whether to sell and rent

Hello all. I'm hoping for some people to give me advice based on previous experiences whether it's worth selling my house and go into rented accom.I've been looking for a new place since October last year but not found anything. I have an offer on my house and not sure whether to accept. It's hardly an earth shattering offer but I wondered if by going into rented I could then be a cash buyer and try to get a better price on a property by being a chain starter.
Either that or I just stay put and only move if and when I find something. Of course then the chances are I'll have no buyer!!
My concerns are the cost of renting, may have to rent for ages, presumably I'll have a rental lock in period for 6 or 12 months. But I really do want to move out of my place.

Many landlords are happy to initially have a six month fixed term or a 12 month with a six month break clause as they don't know you yet and want the flexibility of trying to end the tenancy should you be trouble. You can then ask to go onto a statutory periodic tenancy by not agreeing a new fixed term at the end of the previous one. This gives you the ability to leave with one months notice (aligned to the tenancy periods).

You will be chain free and flexible on when you can complete.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
