Hi Cat, I used some barbeque cleaner on my grill pan and also cooker hob. Just spray on leave for 5 mins and off it comes
There's no place like home :)

Feeling down? Weak in body? Makes no difference to me, I think of you all when I'm sitting quietly.

Hugs and healing thoughts are always going your way.

Hi again, tried the ammonia thing yesterday afternoon, double bin bag really generous slosh of ammonia (omg that stuff does stink!) tied up and left outside overnight. This morning some bits of the stuff did slough off really easily but a lot stayed as stuck on as ever:confused:

What am I doing wrong? Does the ammonia actually have to be in contact with the item to work or is it the fumes that loosen the stuff? Hope this makes sense!

I'm presuming it's cast iron? I scrub mine with a wire brush if it ever gets any bits stuck on it.

How did the grill pan get into this state in the first place?
  • Have you tried Borax?

Not used it meself, but a mate's mum used it when she bought a second hand oven (you can imagin what state that was in  ) and it came up a treat

I agree astonish will clean it up. Check your local poundland for some, it's usually on offer in at least one of our local ones. It's worth having a bowl of hot soapy water ready for pans to go straight in to soak whilst you eat your tea, it seems to soften everything up and make washing up quicker (especially when my dh 'cooks'). I also line my grill pan with tinfoil - heavy duty stuff from lakeland limited, causes less mess when you're grilling/baking mucky stuff.

Hi Cat64, the bits that didn`t come off will probably be more likely to come off with a washing up brush/brillo pad. It`s also pretty useful for oven shelves.
Now it is is more presentable you can buy some oven liner(tefal) in Sainsbury or Tesco which you can cut for size in your oven and/or grill pan. HTH

Ok, thanks for all your tips! I'm gonna 'fess up now, it's actually my friends grill - I was so convinced of the power of Stardrops etc I volunteered to clean it for her. I will be doing grill inspection once a month from now on :rotfl:

Thanks again for all your help :A
