You should apply for council tax discount. The turn2us online benefit calculator will show you your entitlement.

Are you in arrears with your council tax?

I'm expecting £60 per week. I'm still not sure if I will be eligible for council tax though. I could just about get by without council tax.

How much is your rent PW? If it's more than £60 and the landlord ends up going to court, it would be in your favour to have the difference set aside. Also get a log together of all the efforts you've made to get the benefits sorted. If it goes to court you want to be able to show that you've done all you can.

Are you relying on HB paying all of the rent? As a single person under 35 you'll only qualify for a shared room rate of Local housing allowance, so will have to make up the difference yourself. As an example, my area has a single room rate of £60 and a 2 bed rate of £104, if your rent is £104pw you would have to cover the extra £44.

Whilst this is true, the OP may qualify for thirteen week protection. If they have been able to pay the rent themselves for the past 52 weeks, they will receive LHA at the full rent amount for the first thirteen weeks of their claim.
