Hi
Could anyone help with this? We have received an email from www.dinl.org which reads as below. Is this spam or do I need to do anything about it? It was sent to our info@ address of our company email.
DearPresident,
Weare the auditing department of a professional domain name registration anddispute solution organization in China. We formally received anapplication on May 29, 2012 that a company claimed "WeFot Int'l Ltd"were applying to register "our company name removed for the purposes of this thread" as their Net Brand and some"company name removed" Asian countries top-level domain names. Now we arehandling this registration, after our audit department checking,we found this isconflict with your company's domain name and trade name.
According to theregistration principle in China, wewill audit every application of our customer in order to avoid the conflict ofthe intellectual property. You are the original trademark owner,so I am sendingyou this E-mail to check if your company has authorized that company toregister these names. If you have authorized this,we will finish theregistration at once, otherwise, pls inform me ASAP.
Our time limitfor dissent application is 7 workdays. Out of the time limit we willunconditionally finish the registration for that company,so please contact usas soon as possible.
Have a beautiful day.

File it with all the emails you get from banks far and wide (occasionally even one you have an account with), in the trash.

The DINL site looks like a genuine domain registrar/host company.
So, assuming it to be genuine, and assuming you have domain name(s) registered presently as, for example;
Ch1ckenlady.com
Ch1ckenlady.co.uk
Ch1ckenlady.net.uk
etc
... what you should ask yourself is - are you bovvered if someone in the Asia Pacific region registers a domain of
Ch1ckenlady.asia
Ch1ckenlady.ae
Ch1ckenlady.au
Ch1ckenlady.jp
etc
for all the Asia/Pacific-specific domains they have listed on their home page (RHS)
Essentially, are you a global player in these regions, and do you think there's any chance of someone mistaking them for you in those regions?0 -
In the words of (Sir) Tom Jones, "It's not unusual".

Thanks to all. I know I must seem a little dim (no additional comments please!) but in this ever shrinking world, I just wanted to check that, as a small, UK based business, I had not overlooked anything.0

Its a scam, not spam.0

No doubt the follow up email would be asking for payment to protect your trademark - though do the chinese ever care about copyright/trademark infringement?0
