The question is "which tariff is best for you under standard usage conditions" not "I've left my heating on in error so want to change my tariff for this period to reduce it".

I see where you are coming from though. Your supplier paid the same rate or the elec through that time regardless of any deals a customer may be on, so you could ask for a massive favour and ask for the cheapest rates. Its completely up to them, it reduces their profit and they have no obligation to offer this.

However, this would be within the capabilities of the meter during this period. So, you can't switch from single rate to E7 this way as that changes the profile of the energy they have paid for. Whilst not impossible, its not something a supplier would want to do. You could ask if they could put you on a backdated cheapest single rate tariff of the time though as its fits their energy purchase...but its not something they are likely to agree with.

I very much doubt if you can save £500 by a 'like for like' tariff change, I suggest you post the evidence to support that, so that someone an check it.
And no, your supplier will not give you a retrospective credit for a tariff change. The matter of an unfeasibly low DD is another issue entirely.
