cost of plastering walls

Options
I have had builders lifting floor boards, as they found a nail in one of the gas pipes they have fixed and rerouted. Although they say this part they have done for free, they are now quoting an extra £800 for the new gas supply, sheeting wall and plastering wall. The plasterer will be in doing other walls in the house, this additional wall is about 25 foot length and maybe about 7 foot high. I was previously informed replacing the damaged pipe would be about £50. So even with the boarding and plaster I think 800 is a bit excessive. Any advice please.

  • Is it just the one wall at 25ft x 7ft, or does it include additional walls in the house that you mentioned too?

    Hi,
I had one wall of 20ft by 8ft done for £300 in greater london.
  • the plasterer is already in to do another few walls, this wall is additional to the planned work. It just seems a little on the high side.

That is on the high side if that is just for plastering, you should expect them to manage that in a day no problem. Materials wouldnt be no more than £100. So £700 labour for a day.

I assume that Youngbusinessman meant that the original quote of £800 could only have included £100 of materials, so the OP was being quoted £700 for a day's labour. Which, as you say, sounds excessive.

(I.E. I think you and Youngbusinessman are agreeing - it's just that he didn't specifcially add "which is too expensive" to the end of his reply)
