Using different names on eBay and PayPal

Although I called eBay to ask if I could, and they said "Yes", I don't really trust them because they sometimes go berzerk on people and close accounts.

I had some issues with PayPal, and they shut down my PayPal account (for no good reason what so ever, but never mind).
I still have my eBay account, and it is a Top Seller and I want to use it with a friends PayPal account.

Does anyone know if I can do that?

If you do & it ever gets linked back to you then it will probably be closed down.
It may be better to try & sort out the problem you had with paypal that caused them to close your account.

I tried to sort it out with PayPal, for so long..
Made 100s of calls to them, the last sentence I heard from the on the phone was "You can never use PayPal again".
And there are many sites on the web about how PayPal is abusing their power to close down any account without reconsideration.
My account was closed because I transferred big sums of money to my supplier in China, and they suspected I had "multiple accounts" or something. The whole experience was very very depressing, and I really did everything I could to try and sort it out with them.

You do not have to use the same name for ebay and paypal - I have used my paypal account to pay for things on my wife's ebay account.

This is true, but then PayPal and eBay will link you. If either of you breach policy or are suspended for whatever reason, it will affect all the accounts.

Op, linking your eBay to anyone else's PayPal by making/taking a payment on that account to your eBay will cause them to suffer the same consequences as you have found yourself in.

If you cannot sort the matter out on your own PayPal account, then trying to circumvent the system will eventually result in closure of accounts for anyone who can be linked to you, however tenuously.

If it's to run a business then the chances are you'll end up in the same situation with your friends paypal account.
You could then end up with a lot of stock & not be able to sell them easily.

It is easy and possible to buy using a friends paypal account, I do it all the time for my sons. However selling on someone else paypal is riskier as it could be seen as a way to get round problems, or even money laundering.

The fact that you have already been banned from using your paypal account and cannot now open another one as paypal do not wish you to use their service means that when (and this is not an 'if' it is a when) you are caught you will lose the lot.

Paypal/ebay have a nasty habit of waiting until you have a thriving set up, lots of money invested and then close you down .

I would continue working on getting the original account open.Many of us get questioned about large payments, I was suspended a few years back for something similar and had to produce tax details and a copy of my DL and bank statement before they re opened me. i dealt with everything by phone and refused to fax anything and instead asked them to provide an upload link (which they did after a few phone calls) and I scanned and uploaded al my details.

Took (from memory) about 6 -8 days to get my account back in full working order

The thing is, they suspended me with no specific reason.
If they would tell me the reason, I would provide proof of whatever they want. But I was suspended because of some "automatic security problem", that one of their robots found. And they actually refused to tell me the reason, or couldn't.
It's very weird because the suppliers I worked with say they did not get suspended.
I've seen many sites online crying about how horrible PayPal is treating their customers, and suspend them without any reason. That is why many people use proxy and false details to fake accounts so they can make money off eBay.

Anyway, thank you all for your advice, I actually called eBay twice and asked if I could link a PayPal account of a friend or my brother, and they said there is no problem, although it is better to use your own.

Your supplier sells on ebay also? Wonder if the problem is linked to them?

Anyway as mentioned i think its risky to use your existing account.

When you phoned and asked them if it was OK to use a different paypal account, Did you
mention because your own account had been closed?
I think not and doubt they would offer the same advice in that case.

Start a new ebay and paypal account in another name and a different address.

Just in case they ask for proof later.

I occasionally pay for my wife's ebay items with my paypal account.
I have also paid for my son's on occasion.
It has never been queried.

As per my response on post 7. Using someone elses account to pay for goods is fine, using someone elses paypal account to run a business through is not.

Op will probably fine for a while but will eventually have the friends paypal account closed down.
