NI Contributions

Hello!
I don't have a small business but work for several, so I'm Self-employed. Until recently I've been on a NI contributions holiday because I was earning under the minimum threshold (I was in FT education), but my income's gone up substantially and I've realised if I don't let them know they're going to land me with a massive bill.
Do I just call HMRC with my UTR and let them know I need to start paying again?

Of course you have a small business. Thats what being Self Employed is.
Just call HMRC and they will put you right. Yoiu will only pay NIC from when youy came off the 'holiday' It isn't a big contribution and you usually have loads of time to pay, and even when you don't pay by the time you are meant to, they never chase you.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Thanks Phill99. And I know what you mean about me being my own small business, it was more a question of 'am I asking this in the right place because I don't own a company?' :rotfl:2019 Aim: Save £10,000

The difference between a Limited Company and self employment (or 'Sole Trader' as it is correctly known) I think is irrelevant for the purpose of this forum. Small businesses can be sole traders, partnerships or limited companies, and I would hope you would all get the appropriate help from this part of MSE!Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -

They do chase you now, if you fail to pay three bills in a row, your details are sent to a private debt collector to arrange payment, and if you ring up HMRC self employment services, you need your National Insurance number, not your UTR number.0
