Urgent advice re brother sending an invoice

Not sure where to post this... Basically My mil cleared her mum and dads house which was so full of stuff it was completely uninhabitable and they were living in her brothers house next door, (also completely stuffed full of stuff.. Anyway long story short, she was using her brothers house as a base and he has now billed her for rent, elec and for stuff he claims she took from her parents house. Which isn't true as most f the stuff was damaged and the rest was basically junk.. Can he do this?

He can bill her if he wants, she can also pay, or not pay as she wants.

If she doesn't pay then what he does next is up to him
  • What can he do? She is not going to pay.,he is charging her nearly 3000 rent and 300 electricity. He allowed her access to the house

Not a great deal i wouldn't have thought.....

  • He's threatening baliffs and everything! There is no terms of payment on the invoice.. Is that a legal requirement?!

Bailiffs for what? to remove the 'junk' and 'damaged' items??? I'm not sure i completely understand the scenario tbh.....

He's talking out his bum. He can't send in bailiffs without a court order - which he's not going to get unless he can show that they had an agreement for her to pay before she used the space (did they? 'cause that could change everything).

  • She cleared the house as it was full of stuff and it was rented they owners wanted it cleared out. Mil was using her brothers house for loo, preparing refreshments etc as the brothers house was next door. No agreement in place
  • Well surely if no agreement, no signatures from either party i would imagine = no leg to stand on on his part?

Send your bro an invoice for being a complete !!!!! and suggest to him that he grows up. Life's too short and he is about to cause a family rift as a result of him acting in a vexatious and inappropriate way.

    Stuff like this amazes me.

What pwuk says. Unless your mil agreed to pay then your brother then your brother is being vexatious, and an !!!. We could all start printing invoices and demanding money, but without proof of an agreement or good/services received then he's going to be out of luck.
