Fridge freezer problem

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has any experience that could help me out.

Our fridge freezer (which must be about 6 years old now that I think about it) has never has the best temperature control, but it's gotten worse over the last week or 2, to the point where if I set the dial cold enough to keep the freezer working the food in the fridge freezers, if I try to balance it so the fridge isn't as cold the top of the freezer defrosts as the temp is too high. Stupid thing has no independent controls and as it's a cheap model no display or anything else to indicate how it's working (or if it's not).

At the moment it's developed a sheet of frost all over the back of the fridge, normally the water drain doesn't work and a huge hunk of ice forms over it anyway, so water runs down and all into/under the salad draw.

So I was just wondering is it possible that it's a problem an engineer could fix, or do we need to buy a new fridge freezer? (Don't have the space to keep it in use as just a freezer or just a fridge).

:(

It would be helpful if you had a make and model. ;)

For ice build up I wrote an guide here that could help you work it out.

I have a similar problem. Mine is a Zanussi supposedly frost-free. Always having to defrost it. While under guarantee had an engineer out and he said it was because we hadn't shut the doors properly, I knew we hadn't. Drives me mad, would never buy a frost-free or a Zanussi again!

Make is Frigidaire, model - no idea, except it isn't a frost free model.

Condensation is a problem in the fridge that has gotten worse over the years.

Ice was always the ice cube type on the back wall of the fridge - there is a sloped lip down to the drain hole and huge ice can build up on there in just days.

Having tried to adjust the thermostat the other day it cause a layer of frost ice all over the entire back of the fridge that/the next day.

Basically the fridge is too cold, and if you set it not to be then the freezer is too warm to the point of food defrosting.

All door seals are absolutely fine, fridge looks great, just isn't working properly!

I think it's just going to be easier to get a new fridge freezer.
