TVs in hospital: £10 a day!

I'm a nurse on a cardiac unit and I have read through a few posts on this thread, all the patient TV's are installed from an external company that have a contract with the trust to supply and maintain them (and charge patients extortionate amounts of money for them too), the reason I believe most trusts stopped normal TV's was for a few reasons, mainly maintenance of them (you would be amazed how they would be bashed about, broken etc), also many would end up pinched and have to be replaced from ward funds and then subsequently nicked again, and on top of this, cleaning, now I think the infection control issue is the biggest reason, we are responsible for cleaning absolutely everything with strong chlorine based cleaning agents and normal TV's just can't be cleaned with these solutions and have too many gaps/orifices etc that pose an infection risk.
My main gripe with these, apart from the cost, is that us nurses have to clean them, it angers me that a private company won the contract to supply and maintain them, earn a fortune from them and when they are nothing to do with us, we still end up having the clean the damn things every day!Aug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00 -

£5 is for 12 hours, which is not a day as a day is 24 hours. £5 only covers 5 channels, not the standard Freeview channels.0 -
Ive only read the first page and fell about laughing at MarkBargain and his idea of installing LCD tellies in all wards/beds.
He has no idea whatsoever"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

Perhaps you should read the thread before posting. There are plenty of solutions out there and it isn't beyond the wit of man to install TVs, it just needs a procurement exercise to find the best supplier. An example is what Peterborough Hospital have done: https://www.hospitaltv.co.uk/case-studies/patient-entertainment-peterborough.php0
