Google Chrome - start up setting

Hi
I don't what's happened to my Chrome settings but whenever i open a second window of Chrome, i just get the following :

dznxh9xu757eww2h0owy.jpg

This never happened before, i always used to get my homepage (google uk) displayed. In settings>start-up i have chosen 'open a specific page or set of pages' and google.co.uk website is shown on there. There's no problem when i launch Chrome for the first time, google uk is shown, its only on the subsequent windows where the tabs get displayed. Any idea what i'm doing wrong? I have uninstalled and then reinstalled Chrome but the problem is still here.

It's a "feature" of the latest Chrome. I believe there are third party utilities to make it do something else, but I've just accepted it, and you do get used to it!

    I don't see it as a problem,that's how I have chrome configured.
Those are the sites you visit most often so why would you want to open your homepage in a new tab when it already opens in the first tab when you load your browser ?

Yes i know many people prefer to have it this way but i usually open a new page/tab to google something (when chrome is already open) this now means an additional click...yeah i know i'm a lazy so and so :(

So its not just me!!! Its a behaviour I don't like in Chrome too. Opera is the same.

I have a local htm page on my PC with shortcuts directly to the sites I use 99.9% of the time. I would prefer to be able to open a new tab and it load this page the same as the 1st one did. It is minor hassle but it means going up to the pokey little home icon and doing another click first. Internet explorer is much more configurable in this function. Its just the way I like to work.

AFAIK its always been like this for Opera whereas this only recently started happening with Chrome. May have to go back to Firefox...problem is it seems soooooo slow compared to Chrome :(

Thats a shame, recently switched to Chrome because its so fast and recent updates to internet explorer have left it flaky.
Just had a look through the program folders and the registry but little in the way of settings look to be available.

Just solved it by adding a free extension from the Google store called 'New Tab Redirect (mod)' lets you set the new tab to go anywhere you like, now set to go to my default local page - happy!

You don't need to open google in a tab to search, just type directly into the address bar

In my case its not just google'ing but as above, fixed it in 5 minutes anyway.

I am liking adblock extension too! cleans up pages really well!

Yes but i got the 'i'm feeling lucky' feature enabled in address bar (eg i just type in cnn to go to https://www.cnn.com) so for a normal google search i MUST use the google search box.

Is there any way to use an older version of Chrome and disabling auto-updates?
