Credit Card Rejected ... ?

Hi,
Quick backstory:

Applied to tesco 16month Spending card 2 weeks ago online.
Got to the page where it has accepted my application, but I then cancelled and didn't continue.

Turned out to be a good thing as natwest/RBS 18month card just came out.

Applied for Natwest today and was delined.
Tried RBS and was also declined.

Thought, oh well, atleast I can go with tesco, so I went back and reapplied, and again was declined on Tesco, even though they accepted me 2 weeks ago.

Am I being delined now because I didnt go through with that original application 2 weeks ago ?
Or some other reason, Bank Holiday affecting it ?.

I assume all 3 of these declined cards will go on the credit file now..?

Mark

your credit report will/may show three applications ; it doesn't show whether rejected or not

your later tesco application may have been declined because your record records now show three recent credit applications.. a bad thing

best to wait 6 months before applying again

If I were in your position I would ring Tesco, explain that you applied two weeks ago and were accepted but didn't proceed. They may be able to locate your original application and process it further.

If you have a record of the original application reference number that would help. Failing that you will have to provide them with your address and the date of the original application if you can.

Could be a long shot but nothing to lose by calling them.

Surely they would still do another credit check as far as they are concerned the Op could of got another 10k of credit since the App.

It's impossible to know why The Op was rejected without knowing a full background on his credit history credit limits, balances, available etc.

I was working on the basis that they'd only do a credit search for a new application. If the old application is still alive in their systems then perhaps it could be completed without a search.

The OP could verify this on the phone to avoid further search on his report.

If I were the OP I would do try Tescos as there's nothing to lose. Perhaps a long shot. If that fails then depending how desperate the OP is, he could apply for a card with their own bank. Then I'd wait at least 6 months for any further applications, particularly if a further credit search is made with own bank.

RBS and NatWest are one and the same, in terms of underwriting, so it's understandable that if you're rejected for one you may also be rejected for the other.

I'm not sure what relationship Tesco have these days with RBS? RBS certainly used to underwrite the Tesco card, prior to Tesco buying themselves out of the JV a couple of years ago? Maybe there's still a loose affiliation?

OP, in future you'd be well advised to a) take something when it's offered, and b) research who owns who before wasting credit searches...
