Are free audiobook downloads ok?

I am wanting to download some Free audiobooks. I am always wary of downloading free stuff as you never know what else comes with it (ie spyware, viruses, etc). Can anyone recommend a good site with current, up to date books, not just the classics.

http://librivox.org/ - public domain audiobooks. Generally the book has to become popular, or is part of a popular series or author before it becomes an audiobook.

Audible - the company, arguably has the best selection, but costs.

MP3's do not contain viruses, a virus file will not be executed by a player. Many of the compression programs like rar will support file execution on click which could hold and trigger a virus. Do not open or click the file, but right mouse click the file and choose Extract, not Run. Be very weary of audiobooks that end in .exe

From the extracted files delete all the files that can be ececuted like .bat, .com, .vbs, .js etc leaving you with .mp3, .ogg, .flac, etc

It is incredibly easy to make exe files appear like mp3s to the unwary.

NEVER just double-click an mp3 you've downloaded without virus checking it first.
