Avoid overcharging-check your meter

19 months ago Transco changed my gas meter to a new metric one. No problems. But when I saw my last gas bill I thought the charges looked a bit steep. So I checked the calculations. Sainsbury's still thought I had an imperial meter and were multiplying up my usage (by 2.83 times!) to correct for metric. I dug deeper and checked my bills since the meter was installed. This error had been going on since December 2003. I have now claimed to recover the overcharge - roughly £1400!!
So, if you have had a new meter installed in the last few years make sure that you are not being overcharged.
