Sorry if this is in the wrong place...
I had to have my instrument cluster replaced after an electrical problem last year and its now displaying the incorrect lower mileage.
The mileage from the original cluster was noted, but an MOT has since been done and the incorrect mileage is on the current MOT cert.
Basically I now want to sell the car,but I am concerned about the incorrect mileage attracting silly offers and also the legal side of doing this.
I will of course disclose this to any potential buyer and do have previous MOT's and service history to back up the original mileage.

Obviously want to do things properly.Any advice on the right way to market/sell a car with this type of 'problem'.?

Also,is a Part-Ex at a dealers likely to be a "Sorry mate, but thats another five-hundred quid less I can offer you"(with sharp intake of breath added for measure ) kind of experience due to this..or maybe no dealer would touch it in the first place, even though I'm trying to go the legal route?
Just dont want to make a fool of myself..!
Sorry for the long post and thanks for any advice..
Terry
Thanks
:j

    Hi Terry,

There is only one thing to do with this and thats to be honest. If you advertise it on autotrader (As an example) you must advertise it with the true mileage. The same goes with trading it in, if you go down this route you will be asked to fill out some paperwork on the day that you do it and you will be signing a legal document, so it will bite you on the !!!! very hard if you mislead, even 'un-knowingly'.

Just be honest and say in any ad '78000 miles' speedo swapped at 58000 miles therefore speedo states 30000.

The last thing anyone wants is for you to end up in court as this will happen if you dont say and the new owner traces back the papertrail to you.

    All the best.
    Alex.

if you trade it in dont say anything if they are foolish enough to take a car without an hpi check more fool them,if you have a full service history there will be a discrepencancy on the paperwork anyway, but if you do sell privately i would disclose it as you cant claim you never knew about the mileage difference

    Hi Alex
Thanks very much for for the excellent advice.Good to know its not the end of the world!

I assume the price will take a fair knock in view of this ...but its an older used car so I'm not expecting miracles..

    Many thanks again
    Regards

I'll definitely advertise and disclose the true mileage as I want to do things properly.I think its sensible to state in my original ad for the car about the speedo change so people can manke their own minds up before they turn up to view, plus of course there it is in writing...

    Many thanks

if you trade it in id keep quiet..be honest if they ask what the true milage is

if you sell privatley advertise the true milage and advise the new owner its + xxx miles due to a replacement

dont worry about what the mot says...it has to show what the clocks state
