I would second Tanzania as a destination. Ngorogoro crater and the Serengeti are unforgettable, I much preferred them to Kruger Park.
Our safari in February 2009 was a package with First Choice. The company they used to actually provide the safari in Tanzania was Ranger Safaris who are based in Arusha. They are a very big operation - we went to their compound to tank up with fuel and saw at least 40 vehicles there and met many others while on safari. The vehicles are 7 seater Landcruisers, with a fridge. I was very impressed with the organisation, it's not a simple job being a driver/guide. There is a mountain of paperwork, licences, permits to be shown on demand, hotel & lunch vouchers and entry fees to each National Park to be sorted out. This is as well as driving on sometimes difficult roads, care & maintenance of the vehicle, and the all important knowledge of the area, the wildlife, the tribes etc. Anyway it all went very smoothly so if you are looking for a safari company perhaps you might like to consider them. The First Choice package was great. It was a week on safari and then a week at the beach. We were lucky, nobody else had booked the week-long safari so we had the landcruiser and driver to ourselves. Anyway great choice for a holiday, you will remember it for ever0
