What Is the Name of This Modern Lightbulb Fitting Type?

Somebody I know is trying to find a lightbulb as theirs blew - it's a new-build house but the fitting isn't a screw-fit and it isn't a bayonet. It's like a bayonet, but has 3 prongs to it.
Trying to Google this, it must have a special name.

Cheers! That fits the description ... right... now to find a supplier

Energy saving .... until you need a new one. My friend's going out today, making a special trip, to try to find them - they've been out twice before and failed. I can now google the type by name. BC30 -
I can see rafts of houses that just give up and buy plug in lamps with regular fittings .... and we'll all stop using ceiling lights at this rate.
I can't see any way to buy these bulbs except online.0 -
probably better to change the fitting to a standard bc - the socket part is usually removable - just need a small screwdriver. Have a look at a fitting in B&Q to see how easy they can be dis-assembled; or consider the tweak in link 2 (at your own risk) :cool:0

Try googling Memlight - something like that anyway.

There'll be no fiddling with screwdrivers ..... some of us KNOW we're incompetent

Looks like the only way to buy these is online. Or give up and just not bother replacing it at all.... it's only on the stairs after all.0 -
It is a PITA ftting.
PITA stands for Pain In The A$$ as bulbs are non standard and probably expensive and hard to find.
We moved into a 2004 built house last year and the hall and landing lights have those three pronged fittings.
As soon as the existing bulb blows the fittings are being swapped for normal two prongers.0 -

OK devils advocate time. If they cost a tenner each and last between 10 and 15 times longer than a conventional incandescent lamp (which are no longer available unless you know where to look) which might cost say a quid and save you a considerable amount on your leccy bills over their lifetime as well please explain the economic logic behind your assertation?yangptangkipperbang wrote: »...about a tenner EACH - change the fitting !
