Antivirus purchased in error now valid until 2025

Hi, I am helping a friend sort her computer out and in doing so have discovered that her husband who has dementia and in his late eighties, has been purchasing McAfee every time an email arrives. Thus leading to an expense of hundreds to thousands of pounds and the McAfee licence now being valid until 2025! Where do they stand legally? What would be the best route in attempting to claim some of this money back?
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure entirely, but does your friend hold power of attorney over her husband? If so, I think she might be able to say he made the purchases "fraudulently" or something like that. (But that's just guessing really..)

Try contacting McAfee, they might be understanding and see that this obviously is an error and refund some of the fees.

I would talk to McAfee - whilst I don't think they have done anything wrong per se, they may agree that it is not a perfect situation and agree maybe a credit note, or the exchange of some of the license term for some other products or services they offer, or into an ew license you can use yourself, or something. You're relying on goodwill, so ask nicely.

I would echo what has been said.
Though I do wonder WHY if someone HAS up to date McAfee, the company would continue to send out e mails...

Thanks for your replies. Yes I thought contacting McAfee would be the best option. Yes its unbelievable he kept receiving emails, and because of this he thought he wasn't protected. Some of the transactions have been less than 12 hours apart!

The most expensive McAfee product is £74.99 for all platforms (to cover your tablet, kindle etx), but the basic PC one they push is £29.99

    that's a lot of clicking!

    Hello

    contact McAfee -

Their refund policy says refunds will be given within 30 days of purchase, so if it is outside of this period you may have to rely on goodwill:

Could be an affiliate and not McAfee themselves. So the affiliate doesn't know McAfee has already been purchased and just continues to send emails.

Thank you for all the advice. I rang McAfee and spoke to a lovely lady who refunded all but one subscription. An amazing result :-)
