Unable to get IVA Completion Certificate unless I claim for PPI refund
Hi
My IVA was due to be complete in August 2011 but was extended until December 2011 due to some missed payments. My last payment was December 2011.
I want to get my completion certificate but my IVA company are now insisting that I complete documents for a third party to instigate PPI claims on my behalf. All of the money (less fees) will go to my IVA (which should be closed, right?) although they will let me keep £500.
Do I have to do this or can I insist on receiving my completion certificate? I want to move on with my life, not to receive letters five months after my last IVA payment with them trying to get more money from me.
I appreciate the PPI I paid contributed towards my debt but surely this was all taken into account when my IVA was set up?
Any help would be gratefully received!
Thanks
Adam

All the assets in an IVA need to be dealt with before a completion certificate can be granted, you have made all the income payments which is good, but there is one asset left, the PPI. Now as far as i am concerned this needs to be realised but that doesent necessarily mean it has to be done with the Company they want you to use as they will take a large fee for doing so. so basically you have the option of claiming yourself and paying it in or letting them do it for you, which is probably less agro but of course means a lower return to creditors. Whilst i am ideologically opposed to that, if you are not going to be getting the money back for yourself financially it probably makes no difference to youHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

seems to be normal practice now for iva companies to blackmail people for extra fees by withholding the certificate0

Unless you were not mis-sold the PPI? In that case surely there is no case to be able to reclaim?0

Just tell them you were not mis sold any ppi sorted0

I too got into this. I have made a f & f offer and had to sign loads of forms for a company to look into PPI before they would set up a creditors meeting. I am 100% sure I have no claim but they still went though all the trouble of looking into it. Surprisingly it came back as no claim to make!!!!!0
