It would be considered deprivation of assets and therefore any benefits woukd be affected as though you had £35,000 in the bank.0

Whilst I have sympathy with your health problems you cant really expect to give your money away and then get us to pay your rent etc for you.
Go for the house, enhance your life. Hopefully thats what your daughter would want you to do. Inheritance is all very well but not at the expense of you being found dead at the bottom of the stairs with a heart attack, no contest. eh.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

How irritating to come across a post that has been deleted, and to see that the reason for the posted being edited was " Reason: Change of mind about the site"
However someone had quoted the OP original post and it seems that maybe a better reason for the "change of mind about the site" is that the OP did not get the answer they were looking for - unless some posts have been deleted none appear to be as nasty as you would assume with threads like this.0 -
There's no fool like an old fool and I was never very well educated so fair enough. I stupidly thought on this first experience on this site that I was going to get some kind of proper professional help not be condemned as a scrounger which I am not now nor have ever been having worked physically hard for more than 50 years without exception until my health problems some 3 years ago. All I have is in this little flat and I simply wondered if I may be allowed to leave this to my daughter to help them on their way in very difficult times. Yes I can sell up and use the money to pay for my future existence as one very considerate person suggests but it seems sad that having struggled through to this stage that I may not be allowed to have the joy of seeing my girl get what little I have earned for all those years of hard work.
I tried to delete the message simply because I realized I had got the wrong impression of what the site offered nothing more than that.
Thanks for making me feel so ashamed.0 -

If you hadn't become ill then presumably you would have stayed in your current home and therefore not had the money for your daughter. You will be in the same position financially and much as I can appreciate you wanting to help that just isn't possible.
It's not a case of making you feel ashamed just pointing out that what you would like to do isn't possible.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

have a look at Family Trusts
Basically you put your house into trust and you can name your daughter as the trustee. After a period of time (6 mos and a day) I beleive it can no longer be classed as an asset for care etc.
They can be a bit costly but they may take this from the fee when sold in 6 months time.
In the meantime rent your flat to cover costs of the new place.
BTW - Age concern organised the trust for us, so give them a ring as we paid the fees in advance but they may be able to get from the equity once sold.0 -

He isn't talking about care fees but housing benefit and council tax benefit.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Ah ok - I know nothing about benefits but once it is in trust then they have no assets (at least that is my understanding), but only after 6 mos and a day. It may well be worth a chat to Age Concern. If they have no access to the money at all (signed all rights away and can't get access ever) then how would the benefit system look at something that happend 6 mos before they applied to housing?0

Even if you have no access to the money you are deemed to still have it when calculating benefits as you got rid of it in order to claim those benefits. That's what's called deprivation of assets.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
