No expert on HiJackThis logs, but the only item which struck me was this one under "running processes" - C:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exe. If you Google "dwm.exe", you'll find references to it being a bit of a resource hog in Vista. Maybe disabling it would improve matters? How much RAM do you have installed?

Disabling DWM by just killing the process will cause problems with the Aero glass effect interface.

If you want to disable Aero right-click on the desktop, click Personsalize, then themses and select Basic or Windows Classic.

    Rest looks ok.

    What's slow?

run windows update, IE is out of date - if it's busy downloading 100's of updates, it will slow things down until it's finished.

Is the replacement disk brand new, do you have the old one with the factory restore partition on?

disable defender, and install avast free.

Did you install from the disc that came with it, ie all device drivers installed?

disable adobe update service using services.msc

more ram is unlikely to make any difference.

Run Windows update to get Vista up to date (you're on SP1, you should be on SP2)
How do I add a signature?

Blimey, you've picked up something from GunJack, ;), Vista only reached SP2 last time I looked. :p

Sounds like it's missing updates and drivers.
    Move along, nothing to see.

apart from being probably the shortest hjt log I've ever seen, I would go along with windows update being to blame here...set to auto from a clean install of vista IIRC, so as soon as it's gone near a 'net connection......
