Phone NHS direct and ask their advice. I think it can be serious but not always so stay calm.

Many women experience itching due to increased blood flow and stretching skin. It can be a sign of liver function not being quite as good as it should bem but I think this is itching everywhere, and in particular on arms and legs. Of course if you are concerned NHS Direct or your midwife.

It's quite common to be itchy I think. Mine was my bump that drove me mad being itchy.

You should speak to your midwife in case it's obstetric cholestasis. Especially if you've got itchy hands or feet.

Urgh, I hated that about my pregnancy. My bump itched sooooooooo much all the time. It was just the skin stretching and making more room for babs. If you're worried about it though, just mention it at your next Midwife meeting :)

I was so itchy when I was pregnant, but I seem to remember getting some sort of cream for it which helped immensely.

    Hi OP,

Mild itching in pregnancy is common but what you describe sounds very irritating indeed.
Please contact NHS Direct or your GP today and see what they say - I don't want to worry you but it can be a symptom which indicates the need for swift medical attention.

    Best wishes

I got severe excema when pregnant which started with seriously itchy skin - I was blood tested to check it wasn't anything to do with my liver though.

Ant itching in pregnancy should be investigated. you need to contact the hospital and have some blood tests.

Firstly,As others have said Get some proper medical advice - it could be a sign that there is a problem with your liver.

I had exactly the same as you,had blood tests, but everything was fine. The itching used to drive me mad & I can remember getting OH to scratch my back with a hair brush,me shouting "harder, harder" at him ( I Dread to think what the neighbors thought). IIRC I used E45 itch relief cream which helped.

I was really itchy both of my pregnancies, sometimes I could have scratched my legs raw if I'd not sat on my hands - liver function was tested and was absolutely fine. Once you've checked it out properly then get some E45 cream and slather it on if you use the flats of your hands and resist the urge to scratch, rub really slow and firm and it will help. I also used to melt a small blob (10p sized) of pure shea butter in my bath but whatever you do don't wash your hair in the water!!! It will go all greasy and manky. Upside of it all - when baby arrived (both times) I had fab condition skin and no stretch marks.
