Sofa company recommendations?

Apologies if this isn't the right place for this thread - I'm new, please forgive me!

I'm about to move into an unfurnished flat, and I'm looking to buy a new sofa. I've never bought any significant furniture before, so I'm a bit at sea and was hoping people might have recommendations of companies for me to check out.

I can afford to spend about £500-£600, and it'll just be me using it so hopefully the wear won't be excessive. I'm not too worried about the style or colour - I just want something comfortable that won't collapse in 6 months.

I've looked at eBay, but the choice of items within a reasonable distance is limited because the area I'm moving to is very rural. Also, I don't like the thought of having to pay some large undetermined amount for a courier delivery and arrange it myself.

Any recommendations/suggestions much appreciated!

buy second hand, via gumtree or ebay instead of going for cheap new ones on internet.
gennuine leather is a very wide term and missunderstandig as we found out.. there are 4-5 kinds of leather similar to faux leather that you wont be pleased with, yet claim to be the ''genuine''
mainly the ones built with many many pieces of skins, pressed then forming one big piece. although pure leather, to make it 1 big piece means going through lots of effort and on the way loosing the leather look

I'd echo buying 2nd hand if you can't afford new as from what you read on these forums, so much of the cheaper furniture available seems to be falling apart within just a few weeks in some cases.

I personally favour Multiyork furniture, it's by far the most comfortable I've ever owned. It is pricey, but well worth it as it will not only last a lifetime, but you can order new tailor made covers from them if ever you decide to go for a change of colour or design.

You should be able to pick up a decent brand name sofa for your money if you look for something previously owned. The other place to look is charity shops as some, such as British Heart Foundation have furniture shops and I hear from a friend of mine that some good buys are to be had from there. Delivery is usually quite cheap too.

If you definitely want brand new, have you tried Ikea? Never bought anything from them myself, but plenty of people seem to rave about their stuff.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Another vote for buying second hand. I bought an Edwardian three-piece suite (sounds naff!) at auction 20 years ago for £75. I paid £450 having it reupholstered and it's still going strong. Only now thinking of getting it redone, just to freshen up the fabric.

I'd go for this. Reupholstery costs will depend on fabric, but well within your budget.

Fabric - I particularly like Linwood - the current Kinder & Kielder range is gorgeous; or Romo - both available on Ebay, but get a quote from an upholsterer too.
