I'm buying a house that has ben severely neglected. everything needs replacing - wiring - kitchen - batroom... I was thinking why not skip the home buyers survey and get seperate damp and timber reports, roofing report and a structural survey. It seems this is much cheaper and it is likely to be what the homebuyers survey will tell me to do.

Do you think this is a reasonable idea?

    Thanks

A House I was looking was the same.

I phoned a local surveyor who said he can do a something in between the HB and structural for about £400. basically bespoke it my needs.

So just phone some local surveyor / Architects and see what they say.

We never went for that house in the then end and went for something in much better condition and so just went for a HB survey which only cost us £250. Discounted via the mortgage company.

    Thanks

I've actually spoken to a builder who said he could do all three things for about £100. Great deal i think. I just need to check if we have any come back if he is wrong.
