Just a query to anyone who has knowledge of insurance claims.
My washing machine hose came out of the exit pipe yesterday with the vibration and emptied all the water over the kitchen floor. The floor and kitchen cubpoards were all soaked, so I called my insurance company. The man with the van came out to assess and to arrange de-humidifers and drying equipment. My kitchen, hall and living room are all next to each other with adjoining laminate floors and the water had gone straight through into the living room. The contractor that was called has ripped up all the kitchen floor, apart from under the kitchen cupboards. He has also ripped up all of the hallway, and just the affected bit of the living room for drying purposes. Obviously, this will all have to be replaced.
My query is, in the lounge my laminate floor was laid down before my cast iron fireplace, fire surround and granite hearth was secured on top. To replace the floor, will they have to dismantle the fireplace, and replace them? Will they pay for the walls to be replastered in the living room (after taking surround out), when it was only a washing machine leak?
Also, what are the chances of taking out the kitchen cupboards out in one piece if the plinths underneath are swollen?
I've never claimed for anything before, And there's no one else coming out to assess until Thursday now, so not sure how it works.
