As pointed out by Cardew, its a power factor correction device, if you are running a workshop or freezer centre with a high inductive load the device may save some money.
In a domestic environment you may as well use one of these.

    I can't really add to posts 3 and 7.

They won't save money in a UK domestic situation.

    Look at this link:

Power Factor Correction for residential customers (home owners) is a
scam. At most, each unit is worth a few cents as an investment.
Power factor correction does make sense for some commercial / industrial customers.

As far as I can see from the link, it's a different system to that being offered by Momentis. The EMS EnergyMizer has been used and tested in domestic environments before being launched as a residential unit. As to whether it will/will not save money in a UK domestic situation the article doesn't mention anything about it. It does claim that no savings, or very little, are made domestically however, it would appear EMS have proved otherwise. The last update for the article is Jan 2009 - 3 and a half years ago - that's an incredibly long time in the technology world.

    What proof?

It would be a very simple test. A controlled electrical load run for a set time without the Energymizer, then the same test with the Energymizer.

If it did work, they could get it tested by the Energy Saving Trust(EST) or WHICH and then everyone would buy one.

Power Factor(PF) Correction is an incredibly complex field. However a domestic customer is charged for the kWh consumed so PF is not an issue.

Read back through MSE and people swear blind they have absolute proof that a simple magnet strapped to the fuel lines of a car improves fuel consumption by 30+% - it works the same on Oil central heating as well - the technical explanation is that 'it lines up the mollycules(sic)'

Had a message last night saying they had now launched and the electricity mizer device was now available.

    24 months at £12:95
    One off payment £229:95

If it dont do what it says on Tin could be their downfall. On the other hand if it does i imagine they would sell lots.

Looks like a pyramid scheme to me ,but then I'm a bit cynical.
Anyhoo, off to stick a magnet on the fuel line in the car.

Well, their website has 11 pages about the compensation plan and busy opportunity and one page about the products. Interesting balance.

Especially given the products released are rather suspect.
