How can I find what charities are in my area?

Options
Sorry if this is not in the right place, but I wasn't sure where it should be. Feel free to move it if you need to.

I am about to sign up for my first 10K run in Sept and thinking that I would like to raise some money for charity. I would like to raise money for a local small charity preferably to do with children (possibly disabled children), but I dont know where to look for one. Ive not lived in my area very long so where can I start to look?

Thanks
Current Aims: Laptop/PC, decent money, holiday
Best Wins: Ipad, Nintendo 3DS, £400 Shopping Spree at LK Bennett, £100 Boots vouchers
Total Wins (Since April 2012) £3442.56
Big thanks to all who post comps :T:beer:

Try yorkshire charity Kidz Foundation (note the Z in Kidz) they offer grants to families who have sick or disabled children.

Cant post a link, but they come up first on a google search. They are based in Halifax.

Have you tried the advanced search facility on the charity commission's website, you can filter by area, activities and who the charities help.
  • never heard of the charity commission. Will have a google at it. Thank you.
