I'm on Virgin media BB and using an additional Belkin wireless router , G type, some of my newer devices support N type eg ipod touch, mobile phone PC, is it worth upgrading my wireless router? It won't skin me to splash out, the one I was considering is the one with an LCD display (gimmick I know but routers are pretty boring at the best of times).

Only you can answer that, i have had N on 5ghz for years and never used wireless.
I do have a DLink DIR855 with lcd display for last three years used with O2 (LLU) and FTTC. Hard to get hold of all you see in shops is Netgear stuff, had one of them last year but returned.

What your looking for is a router with an ethernet input. Often labelled 'cable' or 'fibre' routers.

It's only worth upgrading if either:

    1) Your broadband speed is greater than what is supported by a "G" router (22 Mbit/s average throughput).

    2) You want faster speeds between your internally networked devices. E.g. you want to stream movies or music between devices.

As this is money saving expert. I'd say if the router works and you don't need it to be any faster, then stick with it.

You might be due an upgrade from virgin anyway - they are doubling their speeds shortly which might mean you'll get an upgraded modem and router depending on which package you're on and what equipment you already have.

Regardless of any of that it might be worth giving virgin a call and blaging an upgrade to your package anyway (including a new router).

What is your Broadband package with VM? If 50mb+, you should already have been given a Wireless N Router (with a modem).

If not, there's no point in upgrading unless you plan on copying data between 2 Wireless-N supported nodes and want to achieve a higher throughput than doing so over G speeds.

I too have a DIR-855 (had one for years) and its still going strong.

One benefit I appeared to achieve moving to N ASDL was a stronger signal and less prone to dropping out or being "swamped" by a neighbours BT home hub. TP Link.

you will not need a adsl router ,you will need a Cable/FTTC router that you connect to your virgin modem or if you have one superhub,
you might be able to get a superhub for free give them a ring and ask
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff
