Hi,

Looking for advice please. Looking at two refurbed Acer, one has 8Gb RAM and the other has 1TB HDD but can be upgraded for another £60. Which would you go for please?

You are mixing 8 GB RAM (for applications) and the 1TB which is the capacity of the hard drive(storage).

...and let's face it, how many people get anywhere near a couple of hundred gigs, never mind 1TB....

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

    Thanks for your replies.

I know the difference between the RAM and the HDD but thank you.

I just wondered which would be better to go for 8GB onboard and 500GB HDD or one with a 1TB HDD and upgrade the RAM? Also whether £60 for upgrading 4gig to 8gig RAM was reasonable or not. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

    Thanks again,

Depends on the original configuration, but £60 is too much.

For instance; if 1 x 4GB, then only one 4GB module is needed. Perhaps £15. If 2 x 2GB, then 2 x 4GB will have to be purchased.

it would also depend on the OS, as anymore then 4 gig is wasted on a 32bit system, and xp64 isnt all that, where as windows 7 64 is good

Thanks all for your replies. I think I'll go for the 8GB onboard as I think GunJack is probably right in that I wouldn't need 1TB HDD and I could always use an external drive if capacity ever became a problem. Whereas having the 8GB RAM should ensure the machine is suitably quick at processing and allow for future weighty programmes/applications.

Really appreciate all your advice as always.

    Thanks,
