Boxes for moving house.

Options
Hi all,

What's the best way to get boxes for moving house?

We're currently getting some from shops (cardboard boxes as they are putting stock onto the shop floor, but they fold most of them) and also buying a few sturdy boxes.

Also, requested some from people at work and friends.

However, if I wanted more what's the best way? I assume if the house movers supply any, they will be cardboard and therefore we're better off ordering ourselves from the internet at a cheaper rate?

Thanks

Ask on freecycle - I got mine there a few years ago

I've just bought some from https://www.boxed-up.co.uk but via eBay. Cheap enough and very fast dispatch/delivery.

Oh and a packing 'tape gun' to make up your boxes will save you so much time - I borrowed a couple from the postroom at work but they're cheap on Ebay.

I moved house in November last year and got mine from Tesco and Co-op, they were very helpful. The only box I had to buy was one for our 50" TV, why would anyone buy boxes that can be given to you for free?

I also got bubble wrap from eBay it was much cheaper than everywhere else.

....because boxes of standard sizes will stack better in the van. Because document storage boxes (for example) will be designed to take lots of heavy paperwork, so are strong; they come with lids for easy stacking and sealing, and generally have carry handles inset into the sides; and once you're done with them this time, they fold flat for storage so you can re-use them for your next removal, or rent them out / lend them to friends and family for theirs, etc

I would get yourselves known with the local businesses, ask them when they are expecting delivery's so you know when to collect empty boxes. If you organize it before hand they won't flat pack the boxes. I work in a clothes shop and we often get asked the above and we are always very happy to help.
