In essence you and he are saying pretty much the same thing so I don't see a conflict.

IMHO Tpt is correct. Its a simple enough thing to do and its relatively cheap. Not doing it is taking a risk that is disproportionate to the cost of doing it.

Line the shower or bath area with shower panel, aquapanel, or whatever it's called, and you'll have no grout lines to concern you, only edge sealant.

Much easier to clean, too.... and less mess to install.

Aquapanel is a backing board for tiling onto.

Plastic shower panels are what they look - horrid. IMO of course.

No, not plastic - we just had two bathrooms redone with "Showerwall" (I had to look it up) - the fitters put water-resistant plasterboard ("Green" plasterboard was what they called it) up where the old tiles had come off, and taken plasterboard with them, and also out beyond the edges of where the Showerwall was to go.

Guaranteed 15 years as long as fitted properly.....

Ah OK - sorry misunderstood you.
    as long as fitted properly.....
Is, of course, the key issue.

The shower is going above the bath so the shower tray factor isn't in play here, but I take on board all the comments and advice, so thanks for that.
