if you don't use it much for work and the mileage is not going to be much, how about running a shed (cheap old car) for a few months to get yourself back into the the black? A £500 little Fiesta or similar will be pennies to run in comparison to your current monthly expenditure, and if you're handy enough with a spanner most repairs could be done yourself - not that it's likely to need any in that short space of time if you buy one thats ok?
I'm looking at one now in my local paper, P reg 1.25 Fiesta, 89k miles, owned by mature couple for last 10 years....its green but you can't have it all
Just an idea..0 -
Thanks Ghostrider, that was the kind of thing I had in mind... except I'm not at all handy with a spanner! We know a good local garage who won't rip us off though. I would save a shedload of money wouldn't I? Hmmm....Debt paid off: £19,999 Debt remaining: NONE!!:money::eek::):j:j:j:j:j:j0

Get what I have - Mk3 Golf 1.9TDI. They go for about £350 on eBay with 12 months MOT, cheap to insure and best of all you can pour vegetable oil straight into them, and they run!BrandNewStart wrote: »Thanks Ghostrider, that was the kind of thing I had in mind... except I'm not at all handy with a spanner! Less than £1/litre fuel, done over 100k and never broken down (the Mk3 Golfs are often regarded as the last "great" reliable VWs), only reason I have changed car is because someone hit and wrote off the old one! Only things I've needed to do are brake pads and servicing, all of which can be done with about three spanners and a screwdriver.
Plus they're not school mum cars and with all the money you're saving you can afford to have a guilt-free holiday away as the fuel is so cheap

Its the certainly the way forward in my view, I don't suppose if you chose the right car it'd cost much to run.
For instance, i've been running an old R reg MX-5 for the last 12 months as a cheap bit of fun (cost £1200 to buy) and it just failed the MOT, cost £200 to fix it, and apart from that a basic service (£100 at my local trusted garage) in 12 months...£300 is pretty cheap for 12 months of motoring I reckon.
Or like Obukit says, a cheap diesel maybe is a good idea too.
Certainly don't tie yourself down with more finance if you don't rely on a car everyday, its just not worth it for now, maybe once you're back in the black if you want to.0
