can i get help with childcare when doing an open uni course?

Doubt it very much - and really, it isn't necessary. There are loads of people doing the same course as me with children and jobs. They manage.

You need a job for 16 hours a week to be able to claim the child care eleement of working tax credits so it is possible with some juggling. You will probably find it easier and much cheaper doing the course in the evening when your hubby is at home and can look after the little ones.

I doubt you'll be entitled to have benfits or grants with your OH bringing in £20k plus all the tax credits and child benefit you get.

You don't really need childcare to study with the OU. Work round your children, study in the evnings when they are in bed or when your OH is not at work.

You are lucky to be in a position to do it!

Which is the point of an OU course!

OP needs to hurry up though, the prices are increasing significantly in September. Modules that were £700 will be around £2,500. You need to study six modules to get a degree. However, sign up before September and declare your degree and you'll pay the old fees.

Unfortunately you had to be enrolled in a course beginning before September, and the last eligible courses started in May.

Although fees have already risen, as there will be fee loans available, many people will find it easier to study with the OU.

Indeed - hell of a rise though, rules out a LOT of people. If I hadn't already started and therefore come under the transitional rules I wouldn't have been able to study with the OU.
