Can I check someone's VAT over the last couple of years?

I want to check someone's VAT history among various other checks: credit etc.

How can I do this?

It's also got my mind wondering about the privacy of my own affairs..

Well, to check somebody's VAT history, you'd probably need to know somebody who works at HMRC who is prepared to provide the info in return for the standard brown envelope stuffed with readies. Of course, if he or she gets caught and grasses you up, you're very likely to be charged with a criminal offence; probably s1 Bribery Act 2010, for which you can get up to ten years I think.

No, but if it is a ltd company, companies house will give you all details about the company. The accounts will show VAT payments total for the financial year.

Just noticed this is your second thread on the matter in which you have no accounts registered. Why bother starting another thread on the subject, it just confuses things.

No they won't. Since VAT is a tax due to the government they won't be included in the accounts at all. The most you will be able to do (if it's a large company) is to guess how much of the liability for 'Other taxes and social security costs' might be the liability for VAT. For small companies (and that's most of 'em) you won't even get that.
