They won't refund after six months i'm afraid. 21 days to repair? I had a P.C. in three times over a number of years and it took about a week to fix each time.0

Yep, they're within their rights here. If you need business-level availability, you need to pay for a business-level maintenance contract. SOGA only gives you the right to a remedy, and although I never thought I'd say this, PC World aren't actually doing anything wrong here.0

You could argue that it would cause significant inconvenience to be without your laptop for 21 days. Under SOGA any remedy should not cause significant inconvenience to the consumer.
But, I don't mean this to be rude, but why do you need a laptop due to your dyslexia? I ask because just saying to PC World that because of your dyslexia you can't be without it probably won't wash. You will need to justify why you "need" a laptop.
Having a laptop is a luxury and not a need, therefore a repair is acceptable. It is going to be hard to justify that you need a laptop but you could try pleading your case to customer services and they might replace it. But I think your chances are slim.0 -
The 21 days should be a case of under promise and over deliver - i.e. it's a worse case scenario.
But, as has been said, this is more than in like with SOGA, so you will have to just accept the repair.0 -
Under the SoGA indeed there is a "significant inconvenience" clause and a "reasonable timeframe", PcWorld have already stated what the T&C are when dropping off the Laptop for repair (depending on what Service arrangement / warranty it will either be repaired within 7 / 21 / 28 days maximum or a exchange will be offered (and if under a year a full new 12 months warranty if item is exchanged).
I have dyslexia also, but I don't need it for my dyslexia and if I did theres a computer lab with over 500 machines closely at my university along with cyber cafes at a low rate.
While being without a laptop COULD be a significant inconvenience (and you would have to put forward a very strong case) if you lived on campus or had access to another system to use then you wouldn't have a case as the law also states users must take reasonable steps to minimise the inconvenience caused.
At the moment 91% of desktops and laptops sent away to Newark repair centre are repaired within 7 days. It is a case like SuperHan says, under promise and over deliver.
They do clearly layout exactly what the maximum time you will be without your laptop which is something the SoGA is rather grey about so they are going above what they are required to do, but I may just be biased.0
