Oh, and i agree about the parking! What a total nightmare!!! My daughter is getting a bit heavy for me to carry and post surgery she isnt very keen on walking far as you can imagine.

If you're lucky you get a space in Rillbank Terrace - though they are rarer than rocking horse poo. If not, hope you have lots of change for the meter:eek:

Not yet - BUT I got some bags of fruit bits from the ASDA RTC thread so I can make strawberry AND blueberry muffins in moneysaving style.

(and I'll get the kids to eat the muffins;))

OP - you are not 'selfcentered and selfish', you are a mum who is worried sick about something over which you have little control. Your initial response is totally understandable!

Don't be so hard on yourself - yes, other people have problems and may deal with them with seemingly no issues. However, you are not these people - you are you - and you have your own set of problems that are important to you. Everyone is different. Don't beat yourself up!!!

Just to add - your comment 'the surgeon knows best'. The surgeon knows surgery best,
anesthetics is a totally different ball game. But I totally agree with you - this should have been discussed at a much earlier stage, so if changes needed to be made, you and your family were not let down 'last minute'. On the plus side - at least things seem to be moving in the right direction for you all now.

Don't, you will make me cry, I don't feel guilty about making waves to get my son treated, but it isn't about me and I really did need to get a grip! Don't mention cake, I am trying to give it up, my clothes are under stress! You sound a lovely person, so make the cake and eat a slice for me, you deserve it!
Have just read thro the thread again. The comment above struck me. When a member of the family is ill, it's true that the ilness only affects that one person. But the effects and stress of the situation affect everyone - including YOU. Here you are telling someone else that they are a lovely person and to go and eat cake. Do me a favour - go and look in a mirror and say that to the person looking back at you. YOU deserve it.

(sorry if I have my affects/ effects all twisted today - I'm just having one of THOSE days!)

  • Once again apologies,
I have been trying to get my head straight, sympathy is lovely, but it is a bit like when I was a kid, could skin my knees and be fine then my Gran would have me in tears just by saying how brave I was!
    gunsandbanjos,
We live over in Fife, so I think we can get buses up to the Meadows, otherwise it means going round in circles while I find a big enough parking spot for me to park. Trouble is my Astra becomes bus size when I try to park it! We now have a date for the surgery as well, late in July, but at least we can plan again. The surgeon is hopeful he will still be OK to start Uni again in September, if all goes well!
I thought you could get some sort of ticket to park in Rillbank Terrace if you had a good reason? Picking your daughter up after surgery ought to qualify!
    Valli,
Just stop it, I am getting cravings for sugar! My daughter, is at college studying catering, I have enough trouble with her trying out recipes!
    scrappie,
Yes, now I am calmer, it all makes sense, but the trouble is my son took this so much better than I did. It is probably for the best in the long run. Just wish that it had been sorted out earlier, so much went into getting everything organized, the anesthetists that were going to be used had been willing to go ahead with the operation.
Sometimes I get obsessed with my son, then need a wake up call, I have two other teenagers to consider and my husband. They are all great, but sometimes it takes a stranger to give you perspective.

I thank you all, and now back to the planning, floor scrubbing and wonderful housework!
Wishing all of you the best, you will be in my thoughts, you really have made a difference for me.
  • Just wanted to let the great people who took the time to restore my faith in people!
My son had his operation, it went really well, although he was in surgery for seven and a half hours! He now has a whole lot of metal work in his back, can't wait to see what happens when he tries to fly next time!
The staff at the hospital were brilliant! I don't think they get many twenty year old men in the Sick Kids, but his treatment was wonderful! They chucked him out after a week, and he is planning his return to Uni in a couple of weeks. We can't believe how quickly he is recuperating, and how well he has dealt with the whole situation.
Once again thanks to all, for the kind thoughts, just wanted you to know my happy ending!

Thanks for the update, flying is no problem. My daughter has 2 rods top to bottom in her back and doesn't set the scanners off. I asked her surgeon whether she needed it noted on her passport and he said no - the only issue may be if you go to the states as apparently their scanners are more sensitive but even then he said it would be fine.

Its amazing how quick they bounce back isn't it! Glad he's on the mend:T
