Bank paying in error

Good morning everyone...
Ok I have had a bit of a shock this morning when checking my banck account...
I paid £280 into my bank account yesterday (cash) over the counter using my debit card so I didnt sign anything or fill any paying in slip out, I just said can you pay this in please and put my card in the machine, the cashier said can you put your pin in, she handed me a printd receipt and that was that.
So, on checking my balance this morning there was £2800 paid in not £280..
On this I have transfered the money to another bank account savings account, until I know what to do, I know I should tell the bank there error, but then maybe, I could get away with it...
Your thoughts would be appriciated.
Thanks

Lets hope you spend it, and they do you for fraud.

Not a crime so long as the funds are returned on request.
In practice, the bank will probably discover the error when they do their reconciliations within about two working days. At that point the error will be corrected and the excess funds automatically taken out of your account. If that results in an overdraft, fees and interest will almost certainly be deducted.
I suggest keeping the excess money with the original bank, and monitoring the account closely so that you can deal with any overdraft immediately (or better, leave the money in the original account). If nothing happens for a week, then put the money into a high-interest instant access account with the same bank. If nothing happens for a couple of months, tell the bank and return the money but at least you get to keep the interest.0 -
Troll troll troll.
One person asks and they come flooding out of the woodwork, creating new accounts because they know they are trolling.0 -

Great Idea with the interest thing maybe a thought..

Why not just tell them now? It's not your money and they will notice - easier to get it sorted sooner rather than later imo0

Nice story!0 -
So many banking errors over the last few weeks, all the same story. Either the cashiers are not doing their job correctly or something more fishy is going on here.0

Hi
when u say fishy what do you mean???
In my case it was the error of the cashier putting a extra 0 onto the 280, I think...
Thanks0
