Credit card charged before furniture delivered - is this right?

At the end of April, we bought a new dining table & and 4 chairs from a furniture shop in Shrewsbury.
We paid by credit card - then to be told that delivery would be 4-6 weeks.
But I find the credit card has been charged with the full amount but we still don't have the table and chairs - another 2 weeks we were told last week.
I always thought that cards shouldn't be charged until the items are in store ready for delivery - so how do we stand re: interest charges on a purchase of £749?
Non too happy about this

I'm unsure,we bought a bed and paid by CC and was told it would be 12 weeks for delivery, that didn't bother us but they did charge us straight away.0

There is no rule against it.
Contractually, you pay then they manufacture and deliver within agreed timescales
If you were concerned, then you should have agreed a deposit and later payment of the remainder0 -
Bummer
