Windows Vista laptop stuck on welcome screen - help!?

Morning all, after putting in my password my laptop is stuck on the welcome screen. Have rebooted numerous times and same thing keeps happening....

Reboot, press f8 continually on startup. When you see the Windows Advanced Options menu, choose "Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)"0
