Fitting a microwave oven

My new kitchen cabinets are about to be installed and i am having a new, built in oven unit. It has a space above for a microwave. I already have a M/W oven and hadn't planned to buy a new one, but on reading the installation instructions , the guide says that there has to be at least one completely open side to it. Hence, I cant put it in the housing unit. I know I could get an integrated appliance, but whats the difference? Would it be a catastrophe if I put my old ( but excellent) M/W in the unit?

At least one open side would be the front n'est pas? What is the make / model of the MW you want to keep? You said "guide". A guide is a guide. Instructions are something else.

If you have a freestanding m/w , most manufacturers do not reccomend building in above an oven, fridge or freezer any more. (ie Panasonic, Sharp etc). But you can build in a integrated one as there is no danger of overheating with these - they are built to completely different specs,0

I would imagine that it would present a fire hazard, and invalidate your home insurance if the worst were to happen and you were found to be at fault?Would it be a catastrophe if I put my old ( but excellent) M/W in the unit?Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Ahh, thanks. The front venting would explain it then. Looks like a new m/w then.:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

You do get some freestanding models that have a fascia kit to allow them to be mounted in a unit. The one we just brought has that option for an eye watering £100+, might be worth checking if that's available for yours.0
