Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 1st June. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Glad you enjoyed your first shift BB.
Hilstep, PP, Molly & Loulou take care of yourselves.
This week at work has been hellish, I have personally destroyed 3 forests photocopying Jubilee stuff, l started it on Monday & on Thursday the staff decided they need double the quantity, as a colleague said 'They've left it a bit late, as they've had 60 years notice of the Jubilee'
It's been so busy I'm falling asleep at night but I'm waking with panic attacks between 4 & 5 in the morning.
WM is on DW emptied, I made a slab of coconut ice for a colleague who is fund raising this weekend, I'm going to have to refuse her requests from now on as they are becoming weekly events & I cannot afford to keep shelling out.
I've listed everything that's not nailed down on Amazon & Ebay sold a couple of blankets & have some paid for knitting to do, but this is only a short term fix while I try & find a way to makeup the shortfall in my wages.
Time for a cuppa as the kettle has boiled.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Hester and all that follow.
We've had a drop of rainover night, first in weeks but the patio is already dry so it can't have been much....the garden will have been pleased of it though.
Had to play vet rescue last night after one cat came in limping, he's a Maine coon so very big and strong, when it comes to holding him down it's a nightmare. Eventually found a tic between his toes. I hate tics with a passion, they turn my stomach but it had to be removed, drowned it in alcohol afterwards as they are resilient little blighters. Cats now doing fine so another vet bill saved!
Two loads ready to go on the line, wm just about to go on with another load.
Going to chuck some stewing steak and bits in the SC for a chilli tonight. I want to pop to a local bootfair in a bit and then we're off to see the local air show this afternoon . Will be nice to have diinner all ready. Will serve with nachos (ald*s own are lovely and only 46p a pack). That way I use less chilli as its a topping rather than a full portion and the rest can go in the freezer for next weekend.
Best go wake the house, DH needs showering, DD1 is off out early to go meet with friends and DD2 needs to strip her bed...fun fun fun!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Morning all!
Got back yesterday from a fantastic 2 weeks of relaxation in Menorca, WM sploshing away with 2nd of many loads, amazingly house wasn't too messy. Came home to a broken car window, and hopefully they can get it secured today whilst waiting for the new window to be in stock, as back to work on Tuesday and no way of getting there on time without the car!
Oh, and best news was that DS had an interview on Thursday for a mechanics apprenticeship, so everything crossed for him! Right back to the laundry, have a good day all!RIP Iain

Morning :hello:
The smallholding was a disappointment. They had fewer chickens than us, a veg patch about the same size as ours and a large potting shed where they grow seedlings to sell at car boot sales. The rest was a very large garden, it had some lovely plants and trees though.
I'm going to be washing and sterilising bottles today. After the last couple of years of spectacular exploding bottles and a few showers when I've popped the lids (it's ALWAYS when I've just washed my hair), we've got our hands on some champagne bottles. The owner of a farm down the road said they're the only things guaranteed to contain elderflower champagne, and gave us 10 very dusty old bottles. We need a few more so mr tru's bosses said they give us some when they'd drunk the contents - they get through five bottles a week  at £35 per bottle  Wouldn't mind but they said everyone has be careful not to waste anything at work, what with the recession. Cheeky gits. We've bought some corks and wires so we're all set.
I'm now concentrating on everything I do, as I do it - Can I reuse this? Can I do this cheaper? etc. After all these years on this site, I'm still learning new things and [STRIKE]stealing ideas from other people[/STRIKE] picking up tips from othersBulletproof0 -
Tru - we've always used plastic bottles to store ours, the ones that contained fizzy something to start with can withhold the pressure."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

Morning everyone.
Rain here boooo. Oh well saves me watering the garden
Need to plant up my brocolli plants and put the netting up. Might stop the dog running over veggie patch too
No idea what plans are today, feel shattered again as had rubbish nights sleep.
Tea will probably be pizza.
Hugs and spoons all round xxxx
Hester glad to see you posting, was worried about you. Wish there was something I could do to help. Thinking of you and the minder xxxxx
Tru I must google how to make elderflower champagne, on the walk to school there are loads of elderflowers.......I shouldn't really let them go to waste
Jools glad yu had a lovely holiday and excellent news about DH interview, crossing everything for him xxxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Great he thought as he stripped all the flowers i can makeelderflwer champagne and elderberry wine. Took him a while to realise why there were no berries dohMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Morning all,
Lovely day here again :j, wm on its first of 2 loads. OH gone to the boot sale and dd in bed still so peaceful here with a pot of tea
Hester I have been racking my brains trying to think of money making things for you to do, what about respite care? my mum used to do it for a little girl with downs, she would come to us for one weekend a month to give her mum a break, there are a lot of checks etc., but once they are done, its just like a childminders job xx
Off out later to a farm sale, not sure what will be there, but its in a lovely rural spot, so a nice ride out( I sound like my mother :rotfl:) and we will stop for lunch at a pub :T.
Not sure whats for tea, I have some smoked mackeral that needs using so might make up a pate, I also need to pop to lidl for bread flour, and get some yeast.
House needs a good hoover, but OH can do that
Have good days all xx0 -
Good Morming everyone, well its a bit of a cloudy damp start here in north Kent I do hope it brightens up a bit for all of the celebrations.I have a bit of ironing to finish off, and then I fancy making a nice Victoria sponge cake as I have a bit of double cream left in the fridge to use up, but it will have to be apricot or blackcurrant jam as the filling, as I'm out of strawberry and I don't intend to go to the shops today just for a jar of jam, so my Vikki sponge is going to have a slight adaption. I also fancy some cheese scones as well as they are a good standby in the bread bin if I run short of bread.I am trying to stay away from the shops over the holiday as its only 77 days till we go away, so the more I can use up in my store cupboard the less actual cash I will spend. I shall also make an apple crumble to take to my DDs for pudding tomorrow as I have some apples that are getting past their best, any left over stewded apple will be made into some turnovers for the freezer.I want to utilise as much of my foodstuffs as possible .I am also going to make a batch of 'twinks' for my DGS as their cookie intake is staggering at times when they have been out playing.
I was going to try and attack to jungle that is my garden but it rained overnight so I'll have to wait for it to dry out a bit first.Hope everyone has a fabulous week-end what ever you are doing
Take care all

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:mad::mad::mad:
i woke up this morning making a mental note of what i needed to do some special jubilee baking. got my recipies out and was really pleased, the sun is out and its a lovely day. then the post came and there was another letter from dd2 school telling me that she has an after school detention. this means she has had three school detentions and not mentioned it then she gets an after school. he school is a 50 mile round trip and i have to go and get her as she misses her bus. i cant beleive that i asked her how she was getting on and if she had had detention. she said no. its always for the same stuff. she goes to a very strict school. the last detention was for wearing a non school fleece an abercrombie one instead of her school jumper. the others were probably make up. i was fuming the last time i had to go and get her. my husband works 12 hrs a day and i work in the day and the eves so we loose money if i have to go and get her as i have to take time off. last time i told her she would have to make her own way back but that means two busses. im so cross.:mad::mad::mad:
and breath
hope you all have a nice day0
