whats the best way to put a light in the loft? ?

The easiest way is to take a spur off from the existing upstairs lighting loop as these cables are generally very accessible.
Running a socket will be a little more difficult as you usually don’t have access to the socket ring cables from a loft space. With plasterboard walls, it’s fairly easy to drop a cable down to an upstairs socket and take a spur from it.
Whilst both tasks are fairly trivial when it comes to electrics I really do believe that if you don’t know what you’re doing, you should not do it! If I were you, I would not proceed without some good information to hand (a book or website with pictures/diagrams) and make sure you understand what you are doing.
Also, these days you need to get any new installation work like this certified so it’s probably best just to get an electrician in – not very moneysaving I know but safe and compliant.0 -
