Looking to replace my mums ageing laptop and wondered what the more experienced out there thought about the new chromebook.
All she really needs is access to mail, some light web browing and occasional word processing. Was going to check out the cheaper end of the market (sub £350) of windows based products, is this a real alternative?
She needs to be able to print to her existing printer (no wireless, no internet connection) and needs a mouse (doesn't get along with the laptop track-pad).

You can't plug a printer into a Chromebook, it has be done in the cloud.
You upload it to Google and then download to your printer which has to be, either cloud ready, or connected to a windows pc.
Chromebooks are a good idea, but totally impractical in most cases.0 -
Get a cheap windows 7 laptop - no point in paying the price of a chromebook really0
