Credit card bill payment instruction

I set up an internet bank payment for a payment of a monthly credit card bill.

The instruction to the bank was through their website 9 calendar days before credit card bill due date and the instruction was for the payment to "arrive by" the due date (according to the selection criteria from the bank's website). The bank claim they processed the instruction as a faster payment in line with their agreement with the credit card provider.

The credit card provider's statement arrived today with an arrears fee of £12 and interest of £13 for a "BACS Payment received" 1 day after the due date.

Who do I believe?

Do you see any cause for complaint to the bank, credit card provider or banking ombudsman?

Clearly I relied on the bank to know what they were doing.

    When was they payment due and when did you pay it ?

    You are to blame IMO.
    Banks are not to blame if the money arrive by the end of the next business day.
    Pay the bill at least 2 days before the due date IMO or set up a direct debit (not a bill payment).

    Which bank are you with?
    I personally have never come across a bank internet site that lets you say ''arrive by'' just ''pay on''.

    A totally stupid approach.

    A bill payment like this is allowed to reach the recipient on the next bank working day. Credit card companies tend to work on different platforms which make that extra delay more likely.

    You instructed your bank to pay it on the 22nd. They acted on this instruction.

    The funds were credited on the next working day. Compliant with legislation.

    Your fault. Your problem. I suggest a polite call to the credit card company apologising and asking for a refund.

    The interest of £13 wouldn't be for just one day. It would be calculated from the date of each transaction until the payment arrived. If the payment arrives on time, then of course the interest isn't applied.

    Why make life difficult for yourself. Just set up a direct debit for at least the min payment.

    As a contributor on here has already said give the cc provider a ring apologise and say you are willing to set up a dd and hopefully they will refund any fee.

    With me I have dd set up for the min payment BUT still pay manually but if I ever forget I know the dd will kick in.
