Hello all
Just a couple of questions about the Kindle. I am considering buying one and want to know..
1. If I buy the Kindle from a store can I still buy the 3 year warranty available from the Amazon site (The SquareTrade one)
2. Am I correct...I have been reading that the 3g on the Touch is restricted to Wikipedia and buying books? (The Kindle keyboard version however - you can browse any site using the 3g connection?)
Thanks..

Hi giraffe,
I am not 100% but I am pretty sure you can still purchase the extended warranty if you bought the kindle from somewhere else. I believe once you have to buy the Square Trade warranty within 28days of REGISTERING the Kindle. So once you've bought it from say Argos, you then register it to your Amazon account and from then your 1 year Kindle warranty starts and your 28 days to buy your Square Trade extended warranty starts. The Kindle customer service are so helpful - you can call them or speak to them live online and ask questions

I have a Kindle Touch (wifi only) and I can use it to browse a variety of website including facebook, blogs etc... Although to be honest I rarely use it as a web browser.
Hope that helps. x0 -
Thanks
In the end I settled for the Touch WiFi and just lazily ordered of Amazon (the service and experience is so slick, I couldn't resist)!
After doing some more research, I'm quite certain the Touch 3G, when using 3G to browse - it is restricted to Amazon/the book store and Wikipedia which defeats the purpose of 'free 3G' - which I thought would have been nice thing to have to check my emails when I am travelling etc.
The Keyboard version that they are still selling still offers unrestricted browsing over 3G but the touch interface just seemed a lot nicer so...0 -

Well Amazon are paying the 3G providers to use the service.. I'm surprised they still let Kindle Keyboard users surf the web on 3G..
It was only supposed to be for buying books so that could send it to you directly and lookup of words. They always said the web surfing was an "Experimental" feature and can be removed at any time.
Still if you have a Smartphone turn on the Access point function and link your wifi kindle to that and you can surf away using your phones 3gLaters

I have the keyboard 3g, but other than the novelty value when i first got it i have not surfed the web. i have only checked work email once or twice but thats it.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

I get that 3G is just 'experimental' and giving unlimited access to the web is probably not all that economical for Amazon but its not made all that clear on the website (and it should be!).
It's not something I intend to use much for browsing the web, but it was definitely a major selling point to be able to check my email etc while travelling.0 -
