G'day!! Just thought I would pop in as I had a question about a flat I am leasing in Sydney at the moment.
Basically the lift to the building is being repaired and will be out of action for 12 weeks, I dont think 12 weeks can be considered a "reasonable" amount of time and just wondered where I stood & if it would be possible to claim a rent reduction, or the like.
Had a look on the Office of Fair Trading website but couldnt see exactly what I was looking for - can anyone else suggest something? And would I complain to the managing agent, estate agent that manages our flat, or the lift company?
If it was a few weeks I wouldnt mind so much, but 12 weeks is a hell of a long time and my lease will end whilst the lift is out of action and I cant see moving out being much fun with no lift (we're on the top floor!!).
Thanks for your help. xx

call the tenants union for advice. The one for Victoria is http://www.tuv.org.au/ But I think there are similar organisations in other states. I have never used their services myself, but they also had leaflets around campus when I was at university. Hopefully somebody there will be able to give you good advice!0
