Anything by Shirley Goode is worth looking at.
Her recipe for chicken pancakes is so popular in our family I have to make it whenever one of our four daughters has a birthday."This site is addictive!"

Wow! I have to admit I'm amazed by the amount of responses! Thank you all very much. My first stop will be my local library to see which of the books you have recommended I can find there. Otherwise I'll put a list of them all in my handbag so when I'm in charity shops I can have a nosey. Thanks as well for all the sensible advice.
I'm going to get cracking and see how much of an improvement I can make on my usual shopping budget. I have a bit of a hoarding issue (I blame my mother who has a pantry full of stuff, some of it went out of date in the 1990's!) so I'll try to get rid of my supplies using all the recipes I'll be finding.I must say I'm very glad that there are other people out there who like doing things the old style way. I'm really glad that a side effect of this is that life seems to be getting simpler by the day! Thanks again,

I absolutely love anything to do with the WWII homefront and Marguerite is tops on the list! Have just purchased a couple of books that have re-prints of WWII leaflets and cookery hints etc - I'm a real fanatic about that time period:D
I figure that if it's OS and frugal you're looking for, there's no better time period to look back on then that one, as frugal wasn't a choice for most people - it was a necessity!0 -
If I was richer would definitely treat myself to more cook books.. Nigel Slater's Apetite might be next or another Cranks cookbook.
Like Olliebeak I've made a file on the computer of things I like from this site or on the net. And half the time I've got the laptop on in the kitchen......probably not a good idea for someone as clumsy as me!!!0 -

Make Do And Mend & Eating For Victory? Love 'em! :T No, I didn't know about the thread and have it bookmarked to read through later, thanks!
I don't have a lot of room for books and usually get most from the library, but most anything along this line I do buy - just so I can read, re-read, re-read again . . . lol I know Marguerite has many books out - I've also got the Victory Cookbook, but am looking to get another (or 3) for Christmas.
Thanks again for the link, I appreciate it.0 -
