Exhaust rattle
Fitted my new exhaust pipe and wouldn't you know it, it is slightly the wrong shape, so now it is sitting against the heat shielding at the rear under the petrol tank, and it rattles.
Is there any heat proof material which I can use as a cushion?
I doubt I'd be able to bend the pipe.

Can you 'modify' the exhaust hanger a bit to take it away from the heat shield?0

Did you put it all together loosely first, or start at the front and work back, tightening it up as you went. On mine, it made a difference to where the boxes finished up, so there was movement in the system, particuarly as the back box pipe joined at an angle, so the more it pulled back, the lower it went.0

I went backwards, but the front pipe connection has only one place to be connected to and to get it there you have to hang the middle bit first. Then you are left to fit the rear box, and with that in place the 3 hangers on the rear box all line up it's just it is slightly too close towards passenger side rear wheel - I reckon the pipe is to blame for this.
I could try to bend one of the middle hangers in a bit to pull it over to drivers side, but I don't want to do that. Well I'll have a look at that idea aswell, won't rule anything out at this stage.
Having had another look I think a loop of 3mm wire with a hook at one end looped over the pipe and then hooked into the body work rear of the petrol tank or onto the petrol tank strap would do it....but where to get a bit of wire with a hook on it - adjustable to the right length?
Actually I don't need the hook, I just need a bit of 3mm wire looped around the pipe and the petrol tank strap so the two ends pass by each other with a fastner that I can tighten up when I got it where I want it
Only needs to be pulled over by 10 - 15 mmm
I should have kept that old handbrake cable, that's why I never like throwing stuff out, you never know when you can use it.
So assuming I can get the wire any ideas on a fastner to clamp two bits of wire together?0 -
get it on a ramp and swing on it like a king of the swingers
never fails:D0 -
Hmmmmm, not sure about that idea. Might break the rubber hangers, so I suppose you disconnect the hanger that it is being pulled away from before pulling.0

every exhaust is different
i have used a scissor jack and bits of wood before now on poor copy exhausts that bang occasionally to move them from say the floor pan0 -
theres not many exhausts outthere that dont need adjustments when new.
have you tried to move the hanger rubber on its hook to pull it away once away zip tie behind it to stop the rubber moving back.0 -
I ended up taking it off again, and bent it in the right direction whilst held in a vice.
It's fine now.0 -
I had a full exhaust fitted 2 years ago and it has started to make a sound when you press the accelerator. Sort of hollowing sound. Not sure if it is starting to blow or something. :mad:0

Get someone to sit in driver seat to gently accelerate and release and repeat.
You get a rag and put it over the exhaust tail pipe to block the gases and release.
If there is a leak you may hear it as you block the pipe.
alternatively you lie in the floor, and get your assistant to block the tailpipe and release while you listen i.e. leave the car on idle only.0
