Debit Card Protection

I recently made a phone purchase for over £200.00 using my VISA debit card. Once making the payment i became concerned over the merchant reliability, so cancelled the order. Following a less than convincing phone conversation with the Customer Services dept, I also cancelled my Debit Card (for reissue with new number) and lodged a Visa Dispute. Over the last 2 weeks I have received "cancellation of order" confirmatory emails from the merchant and confirmation a full refund has been "initiated" email also, although no money has arrived back in my account.
My Bank keeps asking me for proof of purchase and return of goods, but as I cancelled the process before any despatch or delivery I dont have anything other than the original "thankyou for your order" email and the above mentioned corrospondence which I have forwarded to my bank.
I have been advised that the bank should re-cfredit my account with the sum I paid from their floating account, and they should take up to reclaim the money from the Merchants bank.
Can you advise, as I can ill afford to loose this money.:(:(

You can dispute the transaction only if you follow what the bank wants.
Copy all correspondence they may try to chargeback the transaction.
One final thing - use a credit card for proper protection but make sure you do your homework BEFORE making a purchase.0 -
I thought you could only use a Chargeback or the Visa claim service if the company doesn't deliver the item? Not if you just changed your mind and are worried about the merchant.0

If you have proof that a refund should be made then a chargeback can be actioned for "non receipt of refund" under Visa regulations. If the OP doesn't have this they may need to take it up themselves.0
